Sam Allardyce wants to add Stoke City striker James Beattie to his Blackburn squad as he looks for someone to get the goals to help them climb the Premier League.
The Rovers boss has a gap in his squad after agreeing to sell South African striker Benni McCarthy to West Ham and has cast his eyes at the Potters forward, who began his career at Ewood Park before making a name for himself elsewhere.
Beattie had a high-profile bust-up with Stoke manager Tony Pulis earlier in the season and it is believed he could leave the Britannia Stadium for a fee of around £3 million.
Allardyce sees his side sitting 11th in the Premier League and they face West Ham, Stoke and Hull City in the coming weeks.
The former Bolton and Newcastle manager told the Lancashire Telegraph that Beattie is an option which could be followed up on if McCarthy completes his move to the Hammers – with the deal currently being held up due to complications over a work permit.
“James Beattie is obviously a former Blackburn player and if Benni goes he might be one that we look at. We know that many players are available and we would see where we go with the finance that is available and what is available for that finance,” said Allardyce.
“If we do bring another player in he will have to have an immediate impact, because if not there is no point as this squad is on the up anyway.”
Allardyce has been busy in the last week, signing deals to bring Turkey midfielder Yildiray Basturk on loan from Stuttgart and Amine Linganzi in from St Etienne.
