Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Wenger adamant about reaching top spot

Despite his side falling 11 points below league leaders Chelsea, Arsene Wenger is retaining belief Arsenal can win their first Premier League title since 2005.

The Gunners suffered a 3-0 defeat on Sunday after Carlo Ancelotti’s Didier Drogba and an own goal from Thomas Vermaelen put The Blues in full control at the Emirates Stadium.

Andrey Arshavin controversially had a goal ruled out early in the second half before Drogba’s free-kick wrapped up the points late on.

Although Arsenal have now suffered four league defeats before the start of December, Wenger is refusing to throw in the towel.

“I do not think it is over,” Wenger said. “We are fighters and we have to show that in the next game.

“The problem we have to face at the moment is people will not believe in us, so we have to make sure that lack of belief does not diminish our own belief.

“That is where we have to be mentally stronger than we were.

“Because until now, we had some credit which we earned at the start of the season from the specialists, then we a lose a game, so now it will be harder.”

Wenger added: “We are still in a very strong position. Chelsea can drop points, I am convinced of that.”
