Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez hopes his side’s 2-0 win over Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday can be the turning point in what has been a difficult season for the Reds so far. A deflected first-half strike from Javier Mascherano and a late Dirk Kuyt goal gave Benitez’s side the win over their local rivals at Goodison Park, in a game Everton had good cause to believe they were worthy of at least a point. However, it is the Red side of the city celebrating after the win moved them up to fifth in the table and Benitez now wants his side to build on their second-successive victory. The Spanish coach said afterwards: "We won against Debrecen and we knew we had to keep winning. It was important. "A derby is always very difficult and also very important so the win could set us up for the rest of the season." Elsewhere on an important afternoon in the Premier League, impressive Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates that restores their five-point lead at the top while Birmingham City beat Wolves 1-0 in the early West Midlands derby at Molineux.
