Bolton have completed the signing of left-back Marcos Alonso from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old is now the third signing of the summer for Trotters boss Owen Coyle, following the arrivals of Martin Petrov and Robbie Blake.

Alonso joins Bolton on a three-year deal, with the highly-rated defender set to compete with Paul Robinson and Jlloyd Samuel for a place in the starting line-up.

Real Madrid gave Alonso his debut for the first team in April last season, coming on as a substitute for Gonzalo Higuain in their 2-0 victory over Racing Santander.

Coyle was delighted at sealing the deal with Alonso, saying the Spaniard is one to watch out for in the future.

“He is an exciting young player who has undoubted quality and he will bring that into our mix. I think that we have a real talent on our hands,” Coyle said.

“I have said before that when we are investing money in transfers that I want to do it with young, talented players.

“He isn’t the finished article yet – he’s a young player making his way – but you don’t get through at Real Madrid without having a bit about you.”

Bolton talisman Kevin Davies has called on boss Owen Coyle to secure a permanent deal for strike-partner Ivan Klasnic.

Klasnic was signed by former Bolton boss Gary Megson on a season long-loan deal in the summer of 2009 and managed eight goals in 12 starts for the Wanderers, cementing himself as a firm fans’ favourite along the way.

The Croatian striker’s loan stay at Bolton has now come to an end but his parent club Nantes are looking to sell the 30-year-old after failing to win promotion back to France’s Ligue 1. It has been suggested a fee of around £2m would be enough to secure a permanent deal for Klasnic.

Coyle had initially appeared hesitant to sign the striker but the Bolton boss has since changed his stance and captain Davies, who finished the season as the Whites’ top scorer, has called on his manager to snap Klasnic up.

He said: “He’s taken the manager’s information on board and is working harder, and his stats will back that up.

“It’s something he realises he has to add to his game if he wants to stay and he has done.

“Ivan’s dangerous inside the box and always looks to turn and get a shot off. He’s one of the best I’ve ever worked with at that. He’s a goalscorer and a good lad to have in the changing room.”

Owen Coyle has confirmed he intends to speak to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about keeping teenager Jack Wilshere on loan at Bolton for another six months.

Coyle is reluctant to let the 18-year-old midfielder return to the Emirates Stadium when he can offer him first-team football at the Reebok Stadium.

Wilshere has made no secret of his desire to try and force his way into Wenger’s first-team plans but Coyle believes he should continue his education with Wanderers.

The Reebok boss has been impressed with Wilshere’s contribution since he arrived in January and does not want to see him stagnate in Arsenal reserves.

Coyle said: “It is clear that Jack wants to be an Arsenal player – I love that about him, he’s desperate to play in the Arsenal team.

“But if he wasn’t going to be in the Arsenal team, I believe it would help myself, Jack and Arsenal to give me another six months.”

He added: “All I’m saying is if Arsene and Arsenal don’t think he will be playing regularly at the start of the season, give me another six months and I will give him back in January. I would love to keep him.”

Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill could be on his way from the Reebok Stadium this summer as he has given his clearest indication yet his future could lie elsewhere.

The centre back has impressed since he joined the Trotters from Aston Villa, which has seen him break into the England set-up and still have an outside chance of making Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad.

Cahill has been linked with bigger clubs in the Premier League during this season and his boss Owen Coyle has previously said it would be difficult for Bolton to turn down a big bid if one came in for him.

The 24-year-old told the Bolton News that he loves the club for what they have done to help his career but he has “ambitions” to go further in the game that could mean he may move on.

“Every player is ambitious and if a chance came to play for a top four team then I am sure, like most players, you would take it with both hands,” said Cahill.

“If a big team wanted me to come and play for them, then you have got to be realistic and look at the fact it may be a right decision for both sides.”

Meanwhile, Bolton have been boosted by the return to fitness of American midfielder Stuart Holden.

The 24-year-old recently had his contract extended until the end of next season and he now wants to regain fitness in order to hang onto his dream of playing for the USA in the World Cup.

Owen Coyle claims he will not rest on his laurels until his Bolton Wanderers side are mathematically safe from Premier League relegation, but he has already started planning for the future.

The Scottish manager took over at the Reebok Stadium when Bolton were sitting in the bottom three, but now he sees them in 15th place and five points clear of the drop zone.

Bolton have lost their last two Premier League games to Everton and Manchester United respectively, but they are seen as safe for this season by many football experts as other teams are struggling below them.

Coyle however has highlighted Hull City as one team who could pose a threat as they are getting big results and are capable of catching Bolton.

“When I came into the job we were in the bottom three,” said the former Burnley boss.

“We managed to win games, take points and come out of that, but until you are mathematically safe everyone is in there.”

Coyle has already planned to rebuild the Bolton squad during the summer to improve their capabilities of playing attacking football, and he hailed the effect that loan duo Jack Wilshere and Vladimir Weiss have played at the club.

Bolton’s Fabrice Muamba recently praised Coyle for transforming the way the club plays football, which the midfielder claimed resulted in him playing the best football of his career so far.

Gary Cahill is expected to feature for Bolton against Premier League leaders Manchester United this weekend after making a successful comeback in the reserves.

The defender has not played for Wanderers for almost two months, with his last game coming against Liverpool on January 30 before suffering a blood clot in his arm.

Bolton had initially feared Cahill may miss the rest of the season, but the 24-year-old is now in line to face the champions at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.

The former Aston Villa man played the full 90 minutes on Monday night for Bolton reserves, who lost 3-1 to Manchester City.

Having been an unused substitute for Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Everton, Cahill could start against the leaders in Saturday’s late game at the Reebok.

If Cahill can recapture his form from earlier in the season, the centre back may still have the chance of being involved in England’s World Cup squad.

Owen Coyle resisted the temptation to bring in a new striker before the transfer window closed on Monday, but Gary Cahill says the Bolton squad is strong enough to survive in the Premier League.

There had been suggestions that Coyle could try and push through a late deal after he revealed that Ivan Klasnic will be missing for a month through injury, but in the end the Bolton boss decided to keep his cash in his pocket.

Coyle did all of his business ahead of the deadline with Jack Wilshere, Vladimir Weiss and Stuart Holden all arriving at the Reebok Stadium.

Cahill, who had also been at the centre of speculation over his future, says the squad is now good enough to get the Trotters away from the drop zone.

The former Aston Villa defender: “They (the three recent signings) bring a lot of flair. We have got a lot of players who are hard-working and physical but they bring a different element.”

Meanwhile, Wanderers striker Ricardo Vaz Te has joined St Johnstone on loan in order to get some regular action under his belt.

Owen Coyle says he wants to “bring the good times back” to Bolton after he was confirmed as the club’s new manager on Friday.

Coyle has signed on for two-and-a-half-years at The Reebok after leaving Burnley and the Trotters’ former striker is looking forward to his new challenge.

The Scot, who played for Bolton between 1993 and 1995, had been in talks with the club this week and, after a compensation package was agreed for his old club, he was officially confirmed as Wanderers’ replacement for the sacked Gary Megson.

He said on the club’s website: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back at Bolton Wanderers.I look forward to the opportunity of bringing the good times back to the club for everyone.”

Saturday’s game at Sunderland is off due to the weather, so Coyle’s first match in charge will be against Arsenal a week on Sunday.

Burnley have confirmed that coach Steve Davis will act as caretaker manager for Saturday’s game with Stoke following Owen Coyle’s decision to join Bolton.

While Coyle has yet to be officially unveiled as the new Trotters boss Clarets chairman Barry Kilby has confirmed that the Scot has now left Turf Moor.

“We are all grown men, but it was quite emotional when Owen left, he has a big affection for this club,” said Kilby.

“It was with regret that he went and he did say to me there was only Celtic or Bolton he would leave Burnley for. But it has come at a bad time, that is for sure.”

With the January transfer window having just opened Kilby is now keen to bring someone in quickly in order to maximise the time he has to bring in new players.

While the Clarets chairman hasn’t mention any names as yet it has been reported that before he left Coyle recommended John Hughes, manager of Scottish side Hibernian, to takeover at Turf Moor .

Swansea manager Paulo Sousa is another name to be linked with the now vacant managerial role at Burnley after the impressive job he has done with the Welsh side, turning them into play-off contenders in the Championship.

Kilby says that whoever they appoint the sole focus at the club is to stay in the Premier League.

“We have got to get going. Let’s put this behind us and make sure we stay in this Premier League,” he added.

“We have to see who is out there. We need to get this one sorted out as soon as we can.”

Bolton boss Gary Megson claims he will never win over all of the club’s fans after slamming the boo boys again.

The Trotters chief has never been the most popular appointment at the Reebok Stadium and was barracked on Tuesday night for substituting striker Ivan Klasnic in a bid to hold on to a 2-1 lead over fellow strugglers Hull.

The plan ultimately backfired but Megson has argued that it has worked in the past although he received no credit for his tactics at the time.

The former West Brom manager said: “There are probably 10 other clubs in the relegation zone this year and I’ll bet there’s no other team who have to play in these circumstances.

“None of the other teams down there have a similar situation but it happens and I have to get on with it. Do I think I’ll ever be given a fair crack of the whip here? No.”

Megson added: “I would make exactly the same decision I did to try to keep hold of the game and keep that momentum.

“I made it against Burnley in a game I felt was slipping away from us and we got a point and no-one says a word.

“I made exactly the same decision against West Ham at 2-1 and we went on to win that one 3-1. No-one says a word.”
