England coach Fabio Capello has admitted that fringe players like Gabby Agbonlahor, Michael Carrick and Darren Bent could yet force their way into his World Cup plans.
The Italian has guided the country to next summer’s finals in South Africa with two qualifying games still to play, against Ukraine and Belarus in the next 10 days, and England will be viewed among the frontrunners to be crowned world champions such has been their excellent recent form.
"It's possible that some new players will play in one of the next two games," said Capello. "I'm not sure if it will be the first or the second.
"I will play with the best players 100% in the first half as always. The second half it's possible I will make some subs.
"They are not friendly games, they are not experimental games. We have to continue what we have done in qualification."
Capello has been particularly impressed with Agbonlahor and Bent’s recent goalscoring form. The pair have 12 goals between them already this season with the Villa forward hitting five and former Spurs striker Bent amassing a prolific seven from eight games.
The England boss added: "Agbonlahor is young and sometimes you have to wait for young players to get a bit more confidence. But he is in a good moment. Darren is also scoring a lot of goals.
"Carrick was with us when we played Croatia. He is playing very well and will probably start one of the two games."
