Carlo Ancelotti has denied talks aimed at extending Joe Cole’s contract have stalled and insists Chelsea want him to stay.
Reports had suggested talks between Cole’s representatives and Stamford Bridge officials had collapsed and champions Manchester United and top-four hopefuls Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the England midfielder.
Cole’s contract expires at the end of the season but Ancelotti said the club will not be rushing the World Cup hopeful.
“It’s the same situation as last week,” he said. “They are talking with the club. I think that Joe is very quiet, very calm and is training very well.”
The Italian coach added: “He is improving his confidence and I think he’ll do the second half of the season very well. It’s important he signs. He’s an important player – not only this year but in the future as well.”
