Everton’s injuries have hampered their season but it has allowed fans to see some of the quality youngsters that David Moyes has at Goodison Park.
That is the view of Leon Osman, who has been a regular in the Everton midfield in recent years and one who has come through the youth set-up on the blue half of Merseyside.
Moyes’ squad was badly affected by injuries at the beginning of the season and that forced the Scotsman to have to use youngsters such as Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell in the opening weeks.
The duo have risen to prominence this campaign and both scored as Everton beat Manchester United 3-1 at the weekend, but Osman thinks both players suffered from the pressure put on them as the Toffees struggling with player fitness earlier in the season.
“Everyone knows about our injuries at the start of the season and probably a bit too much was put on these young lads’ shoulders too early,” said Osman.
“It is good that they have been able to have a break and take a bit of a step back. Once you do that, you see what quality players they are.”
Moyes has said after the victory over Manchester United that Everton are a big enough club to be able to keep hold of Rodwell.
The teenager has been linked with both United and Chelsea this season but the Eveton manager told the BBC he aims to keep prospective suitors away from the 18-year-old midfielder.
