Sir Alex Ferguson insisted Manchester United would respond from their 2-0 Premier League defeat by bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. The Old Trafford boss conceded Rafa Benitez's side deserved their win to end a run of four consecutive defeats but was unhappy with the performance of referee Andre Marriner. Goals from Fernando Torres and substitute David Ngog did the damage and key defender Nemanja Vidic was also sent off on a day to forget for the champions. United remain two points adrift of Chelsea at the top of the table but Ferguson predicted he would get the right response from his players at Old Trafford next Saturday. He said: "Part of the challenge is to get over disappointments." He added: "Last season we lost at home 4-1 to Liverpool which was a travesty but we went on to win the league."
