Portsmouth manager Avram Grant has explained Younes Kaboul did not play in the dramatic 2-1 FA Cup third-round win at Coventry because he was injured. Reports had suggested the 24-year-old France international was on the verge of sealing a £7m move to Premier League rivals Sunderland and had asked not to be involved at the Ricoh Arena. The former Tottenham centre-back is one of the few remaining prize assets at debt-ridden Fratton Park and Lens have also been credited with an interest in returning him to his homeland. However, Grant has played down talk of an imminent exit and revealed he could play on Saturday at home to Birmingham. "He couldn't play, he was injured," said the Pompey boss. "Younes was injured, he tried and wanted to play but for him to play two games in four days is not good. "But I think he will be available for Saturday."
