Fulham defender Brede Hangeland has agreed on a new deal with Fulham according to Skysports.com, dashing Arsenal's hopes of securing the Norway international in the January transfer window.
Hangeland, who was signed by Fulham boss Roy Hodgson from FC Copenhagen, has been dubbed one of the best defenders in the Premier League, playing a key role as Fulham finished an impressive seventh last season.
Both Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with big-money moves for the 6ft 5in centre-back, but Hodgson has insisted the 28-year-old is happy at Craven Cottage and will prove it by signing a two-year extension.
"As far as we're concerned we want Brede Hangeland to stay with us here," Hodgson said.
"We are going to be as desperate as a club can be to hold onto him.
"In the meantime the speculation will be abounding and we will get on with the job and try not to be too disturbed by them. He is happy here at Fulham and not desperately seeking a move elsewhere."
Fulham have been locked in talks with Hangeland for some time as they look to keep hold of their prize asset, and Skysports.com reportsĀ a deal has been agreed in principle, with only minor details needing to be resolved before the deal is finalised.
The news will provide a massive boost to Fulham as they look to build on their achievements of qualifying for Europe last season.

He’s not been around in the league that long but he has indeed built a name for himself as a stellar defender. Him and Aaron Hughes been top men. Cottagers!
