Hull captain Ian Ashbee

Hull captain signs new deal

Hull have confirmed captain Ian Ashbee has signed a new one-year deal at the KC Stadium, securing his stay with the club until 2011.

The news may come as a surprise to many, given concerns over Ashbee’s fitness and the recent publication of the Tigers’ alarming financial figures.

But while pointing out the contract was finalised on October 9, the club have made it clear the agreement predated the accounts revelations and the resignation of former chairman Paul Duffen.

The news comes as a welcome boost for Ashbee as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury, with the midfielder not expected to return to action until next March at the earliest.

A club statement read: “Ian continues to work hard in his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament injury and we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
