Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is set to sign a new contract with the Reds when he returns to Merseyside from international duty with Spain.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has been keen to secure the long-term future of his first-choice keeper for some time and it appears the 27-year-old has now agreed terms over a new deal.
Reina has been one of Benitez’s most successful signings since he arrived at Anfield from Villarreal in 2005, and becomes the latest big name after the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt to commit his future to the Reds.
It is thought Reina will officially put pen to paper upon returning to England after featuring for Spain against France in a friendly on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also thought to be close to reaching an agreement over a new contract with midfielder Javier Mascherano.
The Argentinian, who still has two years left on his current Anfield deal, almost joined Barcelona last summer and speculation has been rife that the La Liga giants will make a renewed attempt to sign him this year.
