Rio Ferdinand has launched a second appeal over his violent conduct charge which could see him miss Manchester United’s Carling Cup final against Aston Villa.
The 31-year-old was charged by the Football Association after he was caught on camera swinging an arm at Hull’s Craig Fagan in an off-the-ball incident during United’s recent 4-0 win at Old Trafford. The England man has lodged one already-unsuccessful appeal against the subsequent three-match ban, with the FA giving him a further game suspension after deeming his challenge ‘frivolous’.
Ferdinand missed Sunday’s 3-1 thumping of Arsenal and is also set to miss this Saturday’s home game against Portsmouth, as well as away trips to Aston Villa and Everton.
However he is looking to contest the extra game ban which would make him available for the trip to Everton if it is successful. But if the FA again deem his actions frivolous then a fifth game could be added onto his suspension which would rule him out of the Carling Cup final against Aston Villa.
