Manchester United could be back at the top of the Premier League this weekend but they head to Everton in Saturday’s early kick-off without several key players.
United are currently a point behind leaders Chelsea but will move back top – albeit probably only briefly with Carlo Ancelotti’s men in action at Wolves later on Saturday – if they secure a win at Goodison Park.
Sir Alex Ferguson, however, must plan for the tricky trip to Merseyside without the suspended Nani and Rio Ferdinand, while Nemanja Vidic, Ryan Giggs and John O’Shea are all also still out.
Everton, who lost 3-0 at Old Trafford back in November but beat Chelsea 2-1 at Goodison in their last home game, have injury concerns themselves.
Phil Jagielka is on the long-term absentee list and is joined on it by Marouane Fellaini, who will miss the rest of the campaign with the ankle injury he picked up in the Merseyside derby defeat at Liverpool.
Tim Cahill has a calf strain but could still play while Philippe Senderos and Victor Anichebe are also doubtful for David Moyes’ side.
