Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has offered Nyron Nosworthy a new two-year contract to stay on with the Black Cats, with his current contract set to expire in the summer. Despite the fact the defender has only started two games this term, Bruce has been quick to sign on the defender for a new deal at the Stadium of Light before his current contract expires and has even rejected offers from Stoke and Portsmouth for the 29-year-old, serving as testimony to Nosworthy's value to the club. "Nyron's been offered a new contract and I hope he will sign it within the next few days," Bruce said. "I'll be delighted if he signs, because I think he has still got a role to play for us. He's well thought of here, a popular lad and we like him. He's a good player. "At the weekend against Liverpool, when I had to make changes, I considered bringing Nuggsy on and the only thing that stopped me doing that was the fact that he hasn't played much football of late. "But he is a very good player to have in your squad and he's got a great attitude."
