On loan striker David Nugent has revealed that he would like to stay with Burnley until at least the end of the season rather than return to Portsmouth. The former Preston striker is set to head back to Fratton Park at the end of January with Pompey needing all the players they can get with a number of their squad taking part in the African Cup of Nations in the new year. However, Burnley manager Owen Coyle has admitted he would like to keep Nugent at Turf Moor rather than see him return to the south coast. "He knows I would love to keep him and my opinion of him. I hope we can extent the loan or maybe even sort out a permanent deal as we want to bring young hungry players to the club. It is up to the powers that be to sort it out," said Coyle. Nugent managed to give the Burnley fans a timely reminder of his predatory instincts with the equalising goal against Bolton on Boxing Day, his third goal for the Clarets. Speaking after the game Nugent said he would like to stay longer, hinting that perhaps the loan move would turn into a permanent one. "We have talked about a loan deal until the end of the season," said Nugent. "Hopefully something will be sorted out sooner rather than later. I am enjoying it here and scoring goals."
