Wilfred Bouma has suffered a toe injury on his way back to full fitness from a dislocated ankle and is not expected to return any time soon for Aston Villa, manager Martin O'Neill has confirmed. The Holland left-back has not kicked a competitive ball since suffering a dislocation in July 2008 during an Intertoto Cup clash with Odense and is way short of match sharpness. He had hoped to resume training with the first-team but stubbed his toe and is unable to join in any contract sessions, meaning his hopes of returning after 16 months out of action have been shelved. O'Neill said: "In terms of his old injury, I think Wilfred is pleased that it's coming on very well but he now has a toe injury which has certainly hindered his progress. "It's preventing him from doing anything. He is unable to train at the moment. He's stubbed it but it is a wee bit sorer than that." He added: "It's far from being a long-term injury but, when you think you are well on the road to recovery, every setback seems to be more pronounced."
