Rafael Benitez has revealed Liverpool are now unlikley to land Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh in the summer. It was thought the 26-year-old had agreed a pre-contract deal to join the Reds for the start of next season but now it seems the Merseysiders have missed out on the Morrocco international and Arsenal are the favourites to secure his services. Chamakh has attracted attention from a whole host of top clubs throughout Europe after it emerged he was planning to run down his contract with the French champions, meaning he would be available on a free transfer in the summer. Liverpool had tried to steal a march on other clubs interested in the striker by offering him a lucrative contract but Chamakh has reportedly criticised Liverpool for being "fussy" over contract negotiations and he has apparently decided against making the move to Anfield. Benitez, speaking ahead of Wednesday's Premier League showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates, conceded his move for the highly-rated striker looks like ending in frustration. "I think that we will not sign him - but I will not say [any more]," the Spanish coach said.
