Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has hailed striker Hugo Rodallega after his brace helped to end Burnley’s 100% start at home in the Premier League on Saturday. The Clarets had taken the notable scalps of Manchester United and Everton during their first four games at Turf Moor since winning promotion from the Championship via the play-offs last season. But Owen Coyle’s side’s run came to a halt after Latics inflicted a 3-1 defeat on their Lancashire rivals, with Colombia striker Rodallega cancelling out Steven Fletcher’s opener early in the first half before firing Wigan ahead on 51 minutes. Defender Emmerson Boyce wrapped the game up 14 minutes from time to leave Martinez signing the praises of 24-year-old Rodallega for his work rate and clinical finishing, although the manager was eager to praise his whole side as well. The Spanish boss added: "I was pleased because sometimes as a striker you work really hard and you don't get your rewards, but he got his. "I felt the performance was exceptional from everyone, and it would be unfair to single anyone out. "But when you've a player who has that clinical finish in him, it allows you to convert performances into good results, and Hugo did that. "He enjoys the game. We're very fortunate we've certain characters who want to work for their team-mates, but they also want to enjoy themselves and express themselves on the pitch.” Wigan’s fourth win of the season lost some of its gloss after left-back Maynor Figueroa suffered a knee injury which is set to keep him out for the next few weeks.
