Everton are poised to sign Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos on loan for the rest of the season, after the centre-back rejected the chance to join Celtic. The 24-year-old, who spent last season on loan at AC Milan, has slipped well down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium and following the return of Sol Campbell, Senderos appears to have no future with the Gunners. Everton, who have had defensive issues this season, are now ready to swoop and they have issued a statement claiming the deal will be concluded in the coming days. The statement read: "Everton and Arsenal have agreed a deal to bring Swiss international defender Philippe Senderos to Goodison Park.” "The formalities of the transfer will be finalised in the next 48 hours and Senderos will be on Merseyside to watch his new team in action against Birmingham in the FA Cup fourth round." Celtic had hoped to sign the Swiss international or Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies, but both deals have been ruled out.
