Arsenal striker Robin van Persie’s ankle surgery has been a success, according to boss Arsene Wenger. The Holland international is facing up to five months on the sidelines after going under the knife and appears to have escaped any complications. Van Persie was initially ruled out for just six weeks when he was crocked against Italy in a friendly on November 14, but follow-up scans revealed the problem was more serious than first thought. Wenger told the club’s website: “I have not talked to Robin yet but there again the news I got from the surgery was it went very, very well. "There was a lot of disturbance on our side recently (about his injury) but the surgery went well." Wenger has also revealed that emerging left-back Kieran Gibbs is making good progress after recent foot surgery.
