Martinez scouring globe for new talent

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has revealed he has posted scouts out to worldwide destinations as he steps up his search for new talent he hopes will improve his Latics side.

The international break provided the former Swansea chief with the perfect chance to get his scouts out to watch some of the world’s most promising young players and Martinez admitted he is always checking on other transfer markets to add new talent to the ranks at the DW Stadium.

“We’ve got a good squad at Wigan with a lot of potential and they are still improving,” he said.

“You are always looking to strengthen and our search is a worldwide one.
“We are not just looking at the English market, because some players here can be a little bit overpriced. So I’m looking at Spain, Holland, Scotland, Portugal, Ukraine and South America as well. We have strong links there, as we have shown with the players we’ve bought.”

Martinez is fairly satisfied with the squad he has at his disposal already and will only sign new players that can add an extra dimension to his options.

“We are going to be linked with many players but any who come to Wigan will have to give the squad another dimension, and, crucially, help the players we already have,” he added.

“However, until something happens I’m not going to single out names because that would be unfair.”
