Derby manager Nigel Clough is this week expected to step up his efforts to sign Wolves striker Sam Volkes on loan.
The Rams boss said he would be looking into bringing a new striker to Pride Park after James Vaughan had to return to Everton because of a knee injury and now Volkes could be the man.
He had looked to be on his way to Coventry City last week but the two clubs could not agree terms and the failure of that deal leaves the door open for the Rams to step in.
Clough revealed “it is something we will be looking into this week”.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is anxious for Volkes to move out on loan in order to gain some much-need first-team experience.
